The Lord's Day!!!!  Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
 
Zechariah 14:1 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
  • Zechariah means remembered of God
  • Subject = the day of the Lord cometh
  • Christ returns,  the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
  • 7th vial being poured out
  • Battle = war = not the same word as in verse 3
  • I will gather, referring to the yet future and final siege of Jerusalem
  • Verse 4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
  • Battle = close conflict, not the same word as in verse 2
  • Joshua 10:14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.
  • 2 Samuel 17:11 Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

  • Events and Consequences
  • Christ will returns on Mount Olive
  • Upon the Mount of Olives, this precludes the possibility of any reference to what is past.
  • No amount of "poetical imagery" can rob this plain statement of the yet future literal interpretation of this prophecy.

5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
  • The mountains, My mountains are nations
  • This mountain, My Mountain
  • So called because of the physical change which He will yet will yet bring about, in the two new mounts formed out of the one.
  • Azal = A place, yet to have this name, at one extremity of the valley.
  • The Lord my God's coming with all the saints (Holy ones) with Him.
  • Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdman of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
    2 And he said, The Lord will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
  • This takes us on the second advent.
  • No "flight to Pella" can be accepted as a fulfillment, in any sense.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
  • Clear = light
  • Dark = dense
  • Because of Christ brightness, Revelation 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
  • One day = one continuous day or one day by itself, unique.
  • Psalm 118:21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
    22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
    23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
    24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
  • Know to the Lord, this forbids our assumptions, and should restrain our curiosity.
  • Not day, nor night, answering to "not bright, nor dense" in Verse 6.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
  • Living waters = Fresh, running or perennial waters.
  • Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
  • Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
  • Ezekiel 47 shows us that this water is going to flow equally to all twelve gates.
  • Ezekiel 47:9 And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.
  • This shows the fairness with which God will feed His people
  • Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
  • Former = eastern, Dead Sea
  • Hinder = western, Mediterranean Sea
  • Summer, not dried up by heat.
  • Winter, not congealed by frost
9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.
  • The Lord will be King over all the earth for ever and ever
  • Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
  • Zech 4:14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
  • Zechariah 6:5 And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's winepresses.
  • A = the
  • Gebe = Now Jeb'a, six miles north of Jerusalem.
  • Rimmon = Now Khan Umm er Rumamin
  • Neh 11:29 And at En-rimmon, and at Zareah, and at Jarmuth
  • Inhabited = be inhabited.
  • Benjamin's gate = Jeremiah 20:2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.
  • Corner gate = Compare 2 Chron 26:9 Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
  • Tower = Jeremiah 31:38 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the city shall be built to the Lord from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner.
11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.
  • Destruction = Compare to Mal 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
  • Shall be, and shall abide in security.
  • Lev 26:5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
  • Jeremiah 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
  • Ezekiel 28:26 And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the Lord their God.
  • Ezekiel 34:25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
    26 And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.
    27 And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
    28 And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid.
12 And this shall be the plague where with the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
  • Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be = The subject now returns to the smiting of the nations.
  • People = peoples
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
  • Tumult = people
14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.
  • Heathen = nations
15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
  • Tents = camps
  • As = like = or with
16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
  • The King = As in Zechariah 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
  • God will then be the universal Sovereign.
  • The feast of tabernacles = Reference to Lev 23:34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord.
17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
  • Rain = the periodic rain
18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
  • Heathens = Nations = Peoples
  • Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
  • Punishment = For the punishment brought down by it.
  • All nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
20 In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE Lord; and the pots in the Lord's house shall be like the bowl's before the altar.
  • Be upon = he inscribed upon
  • HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD, Reference to Exodus 28:36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE Lord.
  • Exodus 39:30 And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE Lord.
21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.
  • Seethe = boil
  • Reference to Lev 6:28 But the earthen vessel wherein it is sodden shall be broken: and if it be sodden in a brasen pot, it shall be both scoured, and rinsed in water.
  • 2 Chron 35:13 And they roasted the Passover with fire according to the ordinance: but the other holy offerings sod they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily among all the people.
  • Ezekiel 46:20 Then said he unto me, This is the place where the priests shall boil the trespass offering and the sin offering, where they shall bake the meat offering; that they bear them not out into the utter court, to sanctify the people.
    21 Then he brought me forth into the utter court, and caused me to pass by the four corners of the court; and, behold, in every corner of the court there was a court.
    22 In the four corners of the court there were courts joined of forty cubits long and thirty broad: these four corners were of one measure.
    23 And there was a row of building round about in them, round about them four, and it was made with boiling places under the rows round about.
    24 Then said he unto me, These are the places of them that boil, where the ministers of the house shall boil the sacrifice of the people.
  • The = a
  • Canaanite =This is the word which, divided into two, is rendered "the poor of the flock".
  • Zechariah 11:7 And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.
    8 Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.
    9 Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.
    10 And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.
    11 And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the Lord.
  • As one word it means merchant, or trafficker; but it is also used as typical of what is unclean.
  • Compare to Zeph 1:11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.
  • Matthew 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
    13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
 
Exactly 2520 years from the exile of Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.
 
  The first tribe to be conquered by the Assyrians was Manasseh, in 745 B.C. Exactly 2520 years later America became a nation on July 4, 1776.
